GREGORY GOMINGER

Senior Chief Gregory James Gominger, 45, of Virginia Beach, Virginia, and formerly of Perrysburg, died Thursday, July 17, 2008, at his home. He was born on October 16, 1962, in Bloomington, Indiana, to George and Katy (Cumins) Gominger. He and his family moved to the Perrysburg community in 1963, and throughout his younger years, he was active in the Boy Scouts, where he achieved the rank of Eagle Scout. He attended Perrysburg High School, where he was an accomplished athlete in football, wrestling and baseball. After graduating from PHS in 1981, he attended Owens Community College and Toledo University. He cofounded Perrysburg Asphalt Seal Coating. For more than 23 years, he served in the United States Navy as a Navy Career Counselor, providing guidance and mentorship to fellow Navy sailors. He enjoyed fishing, collecting baseball cards and antiques. Mr. Gominger is survived by his daughters, Katy and Jamie Gominger of Pass Christian, Mississippi; parents, George and Katy Gominger; sisters, Gayle (Mark) Kirk of Belmont, Massachusetts, and Kristi (Jay) Einstein of Pittsgrove, New Jersey; brother, Kirk Gominger of Robinson, Illinois; niece and nephew, Austin and Emily Einstein; former wife, Mary Kay Gominger; uncles, Ken (Linda) Cumins of Roanoke, Virginia, Don (Mary Lou) Cumins of Markleville, Indiana, and Wesley (Isabelle) Cumins of Shirley, Indiana, and many cousins. He was preceded in death by his grandparents, William and Louise Gominger, and Lonnie and Ada Brooks, and uncle, James Gominger. Friends will be received today, July 23, from 2 to 5 p.m., and from 7 to 9 p.m., at the Witzler-Shank Funeral Home, 222 East South Boundary, Perrysburg. Visitation will continue after 9 a.m., on Thursday, July 24, at First United Methodist Church, 200 West Second Street, at Walnut Street, in Perrysburg. Funeral services will begin at 10 a.m., followed by burial in Fort Meigs Cemetery. DONNA FORBES

Donna L. Forbes, 93, of Perrysburg, died Sunday, July 13, 2008, in Kingston of Perrysburg. She was born on September 7, 1914, in Rising Sun, Ohio, to Arthur and Edith Schoenberger. She graduated from Perrysburg High School in 1932, and later moved to Los Angeles, California, where she met and married her first husband, Perry Visser. She moved back to Toledo in 1948, and worked as a secretary with Graphic Arts Corporation, where she met her second husband, Richard Forbes. She was a past member of the Altar Society at St. Rose Catholic Church in Perrysburg. Mrs. Forbes is survived by her son, Ron (Becky) Visser; grandsons, Brian (Julie) Visser and Shawn Visser; great-grandson, Oliver Visser; brother, Bob (Joni) Schoenberger; niece, Karen (Phil) Barnes and nephews, Bruce (Karen) Schoenberger and Jeff (Vivian) Schoenberger. She was preceded in death by her husbands, Perry Visser and Richard Forbes, and her sister, Vivian Tiffany. A graveside service was held Friday, July 18, in Fort Meigs Cemetery, Perrysburg. Arrangements were made by the Maison-Dardenne- Walker Funeral Home. Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Northwest Ohio or Zoar Lutheran Church, Perrysburg.


CLAYTON HOFFMAN
Clayton C. Hoffman, 82, born in Toledo, on July 10, 1926, died July 16, 2008, at his residence in Orland, Indiana. He served in World War II in the U.S. Army Infantry. He worked as a sheet metal worker and was a member of Local 6/33 for 60 years. Mr. Hoffman was a member of the VFW Post #3013. He enjoyed fishing and was an avid gardener. He married Patricia Steiss in 1952, and is survived by his daughters, Laura (Doug) Mayer, Gloria (Gary) Haas-Kazmaier, Carol (Brad) Davis, Barbara Hoffman and son, Bruce Hoffman; grandchildren, Nichole, Angela, Michael, Susan, Christopher and Gregory; four great-grandchildren; brother, Paul Hoffman, and sister, Dorothy Wend. He was preceded in death by his brothers, James, Edward and special fishing buddy, Mic Haas. Funeral services were held Monday, July 21, in Maison-Dardenne-Walker Funeral Home, Maumee. Interment was in Highland Memory Gardens, Waterville. Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Parkview, Lagrange. Indiana.




JUDITH ROMANOWICZ

Judith “Judy” Ann Romanowicz, 53, a lifelong resident of Rossford, died Wednesday July 16, 2008, at Hospice of Northwest Ohio, Perrysburg. She was born on December 15, 1954, in Toledo, to Walter and Ann (Rebris) Fix. She attended St. Mary Magdelene School, Eagle Point Elementary and Rossford High School. Her first job was working at Tiedkes Department Store when she was 16 years old. She went on to work for 28 years at the Lion Store and Dillard’s, in various departments, including human resources. Most recently, she helped out at Dan’s Finest Meats in Rossford. Mrs. Romanowicz enjoyed family-related activities, traveling, camping, gardening and preparing ethnic meals and baked goods. She volunteered as a bookkeeper and served on the Board of Review for Boy Scout Troop #43. She was a parishioner of All Saints Catholic Church, where she was a member of the Hospitality Committee. She also served as an advisor of the All Saints Youth Group and acted as a reading tutor for All Saints School. She helped design and paint sets for school plays, acted as a wedding planner for her daughter’s wedding, and was approaching her 1000th visit to Curves of Perrysburg. She is survived by her husband of 31 years, Michael Romanowicz; children, Michael S. Romanowicz and Melissa (Tony) Jaksetic; father, Walter Fix; brother, David (Alayne) Fix; niece, Amanda Fix, and mother in-law, Irma Romanowicz. She was preceded in death by her mother, Ann Fix. A Scripture Service was held July 20, at the Sujkowski Funeral Home of Rossford. A Funeral Mass was held July 21, at All Saints Catholic Church, with Father Kent Kaufman officiating. Interment was private. Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Northwest Ohio or All Saints Youth Group.




JOSEPH SOLOMON SR.

Joseph John Solomon, Sr., 84, of Perrysburg, died Thursday, July 17, 2008, at Hospice of Northwest Ohio in Perrysburg. He was born in the southwest region of Pennsylvania, to John and Veronica (Harvan) Solomon, and in 1941, graduated from Hurst High School in Norvelt, Pennsylvania. He served in the U.S. Coast Guard during World War II, and after his honorable discharge, attended Pittsburgh School of Aeronautics. He obtained his pilot’s license at a young age and began his lifelong career in aviation with Libbey-Owens-Ford and continued with National Flight Services. He retired from Cessna Corp. as executive vice president. Mr. Solomon continued in the aviation industry as a consultant with Net Jets and throughout his career traveled extensively, being called upon to share his expansive knowledge of the aviation industry. He was a member of St. Rose Catholic Church in Perrysburg and the aviation group, Quiet Birdsman. He enjoyed golfing in his younger years and fishing. He is survived by his wife of nearly 56 years, Lucille; daughter, Martha Richards of Perrysburg; son, Joseph (Elizabeth) Solomon Jr. of Maumee; grandchildren, Emilie and Travis Waller, Stephanie Richards and Alex, Hannah and Joseph Solomon III; brother, Richard (Mary) Solomon of Pennsylvania; sisters, Margaret (Al) Yucas of Pennsylvania and Mary Ann Raishart of Pennsylvania; sister-in-law, Frances Solomon of Brecksville, Ohio, and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his brother, Thomas Solomon. Prayers were recited in the Witzler-Shank Funeral Home, Perrysburg, on July 22, followed by Mass of Christian Burial at St. Rose Catholic Church in Perrysburg. Graveside services were held at Fort Meigs Cemetery. Those planning an expression of sympathy are asked to consider The American Heart Association or Hospice of Northwest Ohio.o


PHILIP ROBINSON
Philip Wayne “Phil” Robinson, 65, of Perrysburg, died Saturday, July 12, 2008, at Hospice of Northwest Ohio, Perrysburg. He was born in Toledo, on October 18, 1942, to Wayne and Wanda Jane (Pierce) Robinson. He married Mary Martz from Olney, Illinois, on July 8, 1963. After graduating from Libbey High School in 1960, Mr. Robinson joined the United States Air Force, serving from 1961 to 1965. He went on to an apprenticeship with Local 50 Plumbers and Pipe Fitters. He retired in November 2000, after 35 years of service. He enjoyed trips to Illinois and Florida to visit family; football, especially Ohio State, and being part of the pals group at church. Mr. Robinson is survived by his wife, Mary; daughter, Kimberly Jacob of Perrysburg (Jeff Monroe); son, Christopher (Dev), twin granddaughters, Sophia and Molly, and grandson, Zachary Robinson of Heath, Ohio; mother, Wanda Robinson Helman; sister, Bobbi Crosson of Toledo; sisters-in-law, Virginia (Bill) Davis, Ruth Anderson, Betty (Dave) Meers, and nephews, nieces, cousins and many other extended family members. He was preceded in death by his father, Wayne Robinson, and stepfather, Donald Helman. Funeral services were held July 18, at Maumee United Methodist Church. Interment was in Fort Meigs Cemetery, Perrysburg. Arrangements were made by the Maison-Dardenne- Walker Funeral Home, Maumee. Memorial contributions may be made to Maumee United Methodist Church, Hospice of Northwest Ohio or a charity of the donor’s choice.
