Dorothy and Al Stanton, front, with their family, which includes three daughters, nine grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren. A son and a daughter died five years ago and a few months ago, respectively. “It took a village to put our anniversary wedding together,” Mrs. Stanton said. “We are very fortunate.”

Seventy years is a long time to spend with someone, yet Al and Dorothy Stanton seem as delighted as newlyweds to be together.
Recently, their children organized a surprise re-commitment ceremony for the couple, which included vows, happy tears, a party and lots of love.
“Eric McGlade, the minister from First Church of Perrysburg, performed our celebration,” Mrs. Stanton said.
